Educational and Professional Background
James Tate is a highly skilled Naval Architect with over a decade of experience in project management, offshore construction, and engineering.
He completed a Masters in Ship Science at the University of Southampton and on completion joined Saipem as a Graduate Naval Analysis Engineer. In his time at Saipem, James performed analysis and project engineering roles on a range of offshore installation projects form analysis of barge launched jackets and topsides installations to planning and logistics for the deployment of pipeline installation tools. Working from FEED to bid to analysis to working offshore on project execution provided a wealth of experience and understanding for the lifecycle offshore engineering projects.
Following a brief period working on Submarine supportability, James joined AgileTek Engineering Ltd as Head of Projects for a team of subsea naval architects and structural engineers. The consultancy main area of expertise was cable and CPS analysis looking at all mechanical, thermal and electrical aspects.
Throughout his career, James has gained extensive experience managing multi-disciplinary teams and delivering complex engineering projects in the offshore industry, particularly within the renewable energy sector. James has successfully navigated the challenges of project planning and resource management while ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
James’ Expertise
He specializes in offshore windfarm development, with a deep understanding of subsea cable analysis, installation, and operational strategies. He is proficient in a range of engineering analysis tools, including OrcaFlex, and MOSES, using them to conduct FEA, cable stability, and mooring analysis. In addition, his expertise extends across the full project lifecycle, from tendering through to execution, consistently ensuring technical excellence and client satisfaction.
Besides his technical capabilities, James has demonstrated strength in strategic planning and team leadership. He has managed project portfolios, client relationships, and business operations, ensuring that resources are aligned with company goals and project demands. With extensive offshore experience and the flexibility to work across different locations, he is committed to driving innovation and delivering high-quality engineering solutions in the offshore industry.

James loves sport and can be usually found watching (sadly no longer playing) rugby in the winter, sailing in the summer.
