Andrew Wright, Naval Analysis Engineer

Erik ter Brake

Technical Director / Naval Architect (MA BEng CEng MRINA)

Education and professional background

Erik is an extensively experienced, highly motivated naval architect working for more than twenty years within the maritime industry. He has worked on highly analytical early-stage R&D projects – developing tools for fatigue assessments – to designing conceptual floaters. He led field development projects in Feasibility, Concept, Definition and Detailed Engineering stages.

He started his career working for an FPSO operator in the Technology and Development department spending most of his time on mooring design, mooring and hull fatigue and floater dynamics.

At a large oil & gas field development company he was part of the floating structures team working on a number of projects in harsh environments.

Erik continued his career at an engineering consultancy firm where he initially covered hydrodynamic aspects, but soon expanded his expertise managing expert witness cases and technical due diligence projects in the maritime sector.

Erik’s expertise

Erik brings analytical and problem-solving skills to the table through a balanced and reflective approach. He is as comfortable leading a team of junior engineers as he is leading a large offshore project design team. An engineer to the core, he always enjoys a technical challenge.

Memorable project

Erik’s most memorable project that we can share online is his contribution to the Shtokman project: This natural gas field is located in the Barents sea where harsh weather and ice conditions make any development very challenging. The work was technically challenging on many levels, and – on top of that – there were cultural differences and language barriers to overcome.

Outside of work

Erik likes to spend time with his family and spectating the children’s rugby, dance and hockey activities.

He is probably the only Dutch person that doesn’t ice-skate. He does like to ride his bike though.
