NeuConnect Landfall Engineering Support

Project Summary

TADEK provided project engineering support to De Romein Group for the NeuConnect Interconnector landfall works near Wilhelmshaven, Germany. 

TADEK supported the planning and execution of complex nearshore marine operations, developing installation concepts, engineering deliverables, and operational procedures. Our team worked closely with the client and contractors to coordinate vessel activities, manage technical interfaces, and support safe project execution in a constrained coastal environment. 

The Challenge

The nearshore landfall location presented several technical and operational constraints requiring detailed marine operations planning: 

  • Environmentally sensitive coastal area requiring strict permitting 
  • Tidal range of approximately 4 metres, affecting workability and vessel positioning 
  • Proximity to existing infrastructure including the Nordergründe cable, LNG terminal, and a fish farm 
  • Managing marine operations around the HDD landfall exit, including cofferdam works and cable pull-in preparation within the tidal window 
  • Coordination of multiple vessels and work scopes within a confined operating area 

TADEK‘s Role

TADEK provided comprehensive project engineering support across the marine operations scope: 

  • Produced risk assessments, method statements, and task plans 
  • Designed barge equipment layouts and seafastening systems 
  • Performed naval architecture analyses for barge stability and structural strength 
  • Calculated bollard pull requirements and tidal workability windows 
  • Engineering and planning support for nearshore construction activities and HDD duct installation  

Our Approach

TADEK delivered integrated project engineering by combining marine operations planning, naval architecture analysis, and stakeholder coordination to support safe and efficient installation activities: 

  • Developed detailed construction options and marine operations storyboards covering floating construction activities 
  • Performed stability, strength, and tow analyses for barge transportation and operations 
  • Produced engineering drawings and procedures to support vessel mobilisation 
  • Worked closely with the client team and stakeholders to align engineering deliverables with operational and permitting requirements 

Outcomes

TADEK’s engineering support enabled the successful planning and execution of the nearshore marine operations campaign. 

  • Installation works completed between February and September 2025 despite evolving project requirements 
  • Marine operations supported by a coordinated fleet of nine vessels, including work barges, tugs, multicats, and support craft 
  • Engineering deliverables enabled safe project delivery from vessel selection & mobilisation to operational planning 
  • Flexible engineering support helped the client adapt to project changes during execution
