Shallow Water Cable Pull-In

Project Summary

TADEK delivered multidisciplinary engineering support to DeRomein Nearshore for DolWin4 Project, enabling nearshore cable pull-in operations within a highly constrained tidal environment.

Our scope included project engineering, structural design, naval architecture and installation analysis. Through integrated analysis, equipment design and field support, Tadek provided the technical assurance required to safely execute cable installation operations while meeting environmental, operational and regulatory requirements.

The Challenge

The cable pull-in campaign was conducted in a highly constrained nearshore environment with significant operational and environmental limitations:

  • Extreme tidal range and very shallow water, restricting barge access and working windows
  • Limited time to position the barge and execute installation activities
  • Tight tidal planning required for all marine operations
  • Strict environmental permitting due to the site’s UNESCO-protected geological and biodiversity status

TADEK‘s Role

TADEK delivered multidisciplinary engineering to support cable handling and installation operations:

  • Designed three cable handling quadrant configurations for offshore cable routing
  • Developed 3D CAD models and fabrication drawings using SolidWorks
  • Performed FEA analysis to validate structural capacity under 240 kN cable loads
  • Conducted mooring and spud leg analysis using Orcaflex
  • Performed pull-in simulations to verify winch capacity and cable integrity
  • Provided field engineering and operational guidance

Our Approach

Integrating structural design, installation analysis and marine operations planning to ensure safe cable installation within tight tidal and environmental constraints:

  • Designed three cable handling quadrant configurations for offshore cable routing
  • Developed 3D CAD models and fabrication drawings using SolidWorks
  • Performed FEA analysis to validate structural capacity under 240 kN cable loads
  • Conducted mooring and spud leg analysis using Orcaflex
  • Performed pull-in simulations to verify winch capacity and cable integrity
  • Provided field engineering and operational guidance

Outcomes

TADEK’s engineering and on-site support enabled the successful and safe execution of cable installation activities within a highly constrained tidal and environmentally sensitive location.

  • Cable pull-in operations completed successfully within restricted tidal installation windows
  • Three quadrant designs delivered for cable handling and routing during installation
  • Marine activities executed in full compliance with environmental permit requirements
  • Integrated engineering deliverables supported efficient offshore operations and project close-out documentation

“TADEK surprised us with their agility, as well as breadth and depth of engineering. Structural, naval architecture and Orcaflex design engineers from TADEK supported the project engineers for a complete solution to a number of our projects. The flexibility of the team was very noticeable as well as a work ethic and commitment right through the team from the managing director to the senior analyst to the graduate engineers.”
